Care & repair helps older people and people with disabilities to stay in their own homes in comfort and security.
We help with all types of work to repair, adapt or maintain a home, ranging from the very minor (even changing a lightbulb!) through to major renovation or adaptation works such as a level access shower, roof repairs or an extension.
Our staff provide advice and help with the entire process of deciding what work is required, how to finance it, finding a reliable builder, and seeing building works through to completion. Whatever your needs, small or large, the services are tailored to suit you.
The service is aimed primarily, but not exclusively, at home owners and private tenants.
We aim to be one stop shops delivering our own services and “signposting” people on to other useful organisations. Each agency team has experienced staff with a wide range of specialist expertise and local knowledge.
Our agencies are Home Improvement Agencies (HIAs), and we are part of a national network of well over 200 not-for-profit organisations funded by national and local government in partnership with health and social care services.
Devon & Cornwall Housing Association, our managing agent, opened its first care & repair agency in Plymouth in 1988. Now there are over 70 care & repair staff in 12 offices around the region:
Each year our staff deal with over 13,000 enquiries and last year helped over 8,000 people to complete work with a total value of over £6,000,000.
