Love Local Food (LLF) is a new social enterprise and not-for-profit business initiated by Emma’s Bread, Shillingford Organics, West Town Farm and organicArts. A group of local farmers, producers and passionate food lovers, they operate a mobile shop which stops at fixed locations on its delivery routes and offers a good range of seasonal food and drink.
After requests from residents, a new stop has been added to their Thursday route: Copplestone Drive. Love Local Food had run a play session at the Parent and Toddler group in January and had had a warm and enthusiastic reception to carrot soup making! DCHA’s community development worker, Lesley Browne, is now looking at funding to allow visits to the Parent and Toddler sessions to become a monthly feature. The parents at the play session asked about having the van stop and now it is happening. And such was the demand that in the short time the van was there, there was actually a queue!
LLF believes that good, healthy produce should be available to everyone and it does not need to be expensive. All profits go back into the business, and the size of LLF means that small producers have a chance to reach new customers directly, keeping the business within the local economy. Add to this the environmental benefits of minimal packaging and a reduction in food miles and you begin to see why people are enjoying this new and convenient shopping experience.
So if you live in the Copplestone Drive area and are around on Thursdays between 11.30-11.50 come and look for the van just outside the Wadham House Community Room.
