Working with residents

avocet cruise

As part of our community development approach and the Sustainable Living Project we have been working with our resident groups and ACT network and a wide range of statutory and voluntary sector partners to promote the 'green living' message to residents and the general public.

What we have done:

  • introduced an environmental section into our new residents handbook
  • created a dedicated green section in the residents’ magazine ‘open door’
  • encouraged the residents environmental green group (REGG) to launch their own web site promoting green actions for residents at home, in the community and by their landlord www.regg.org
  • organised green living Events on estates and in community venues
  • organised environmentally themed community outings
  • run family and children’s workshops during the school holidays
  • undertaken environmental surveys on housing schemes looking at energy and water consumption, recycling, transport and healthy living in partnership with Exeter University
  • provided energy efficiency light bulbs to every household when we do the annual smoke alarm test
  • led presentations at regional and national residents events promoting the green message
  • encouraged residents to participate in green training from energy efficiency and recycling, to reducing your carbon footprint at Trafford Hall, to learning how to run a green event with Government Office South West
  • launched the Green Living Awards to recognise and celebrate resident led environmental projects and actions in the home. This is going to be opened up to residents from Penwith Housing and Tor Homes.
